Mata Ortiz Hand-made and Hand-etched Day of the Dead Pot by Emiliano Rodriguez Loya

This wonderful hand-etched pot shows skeletons in their finest dress walking through a graveyard. They are celebrating Day of the Dead (Día de Muertos), a Mexican holiday celebrated in the Central and South regions, and acknowledged around the world in other cultures. The holiday focuses on family and friends gathering to pray for and remember those who have died, and help support their spiritual journey. This is an unusual piece because it is mostly black. Pottery ring included.  Hand-made and etched by Mata Ortiz resident Emiliano Rodriguez Loya.
